April Birthday Recommendation
03.29.07 (4:58 pm) [edit]
If you know someone celebrating an April birthday, here's a fantastic gift to give them. I've been in contact with the person who runs the site, and she's putting together a great deal for us.
You know how it seems like every celebrity has their own signature scent? Sarah Jessica Parker, Britney Spears, J.Lo- they've all got one. Now you can have your own scent too. UrbanBotanic creates custom scented bath sets. How it works is that you take a Scent Personality Test. I took it, and mine was pretty accurate. The kind of scents I love the most all fall in line with the results I got. Then, unscented bath products are mixed with your perfect scent to create your own personally scented bath and body products. In other words, NOBODY in the world has the same fragrance as you do!
I know, you're probably wondering how you would do this for a gift. The woman I spoke with, Shawna, said that your friends can take the test. Just contact her through her site and let her know that you are getting it for a friend. And you're also going to want to let her know you read about it here. Here's why.
In addition to the normal MyScents collection, Shawna is putting together special packages of lotion, shower gel, and parfum spray for my readers. And as if this isn't good enough already, she's giving a 15% discount!!
The products are custom made, the prices are excellent, and there's a 15% discount on top of it. Didn't I tell you this was a good one?! :D

I haven't disappeared
03.29.07 (11:28 am) [edit]
First, I wanted to say thanks to everyone for their patience. The first stage of my move is coming up this weekend. It's happening in two stages because we're finishing out the school year here, while my husband lives in the new apartment. When school is out, the rest of the family joins him. It has a lot of advantages doing it this way, but the worst part is that it means I'm moving twice. Considering I hate moving, I don't know how I got suckered into doing it two times. lol
Second, thanks to everyone visiting my new site at www.toastthetrends.com. Everyday, I'm constantly amazed at how many people are visiting, especially with it being so new.
I promise to post something fashion related as soon as possible, and I will DEFINITELY have April's birthday recommendation up before the end of the month (it's a really good one). Apart from that, it's going to be time permitting.
Cheers everyone, and thanks for your patience!

Givenchy- Slim Dress
03.27.07 (9:59 am) [edit]

I'm not too fond of this dress. For starters, a good dress should never overlap itself and create a pool of fabric while walking. If it's flat in front, it should actually be flat. This is not. It looks like they couldn't sew it correctly.
Apart from that, there's a subtle hourglass shape to the dress that I don't care for. The shoulders are wide, considering there aren't any sleeves, and the dress widens again at her hips. It's a very architectural look, but when you think about the fabric gathering like that as she moves, it
s architectural while ignoring the foundation of design.

Sarah Jessica Parker's Bitten Line
03.23.07 (3:27 pm) [edit]
I just posted info, pics, and opinions about Sarah Jessica Parker's budget fashion line on my other fashion blog.
All of the pieces in this line cost less than $20, so it's possible to build an entire wardrobe on a small budget. There are also a lot of different pieces ranging from dresses to shorts to jackets. And while that all sounds great, I have to wonder how many people will actually buy the pieces once they see them. Click here to find out why.

Givenchy- Sequin Shoes
03.23.07 (3:19 pm) [edit]

How in the world did these shoes strike the designer as a good idea? I own over 400 pairs of shoes, and not a single one is this hideous. I didn't even dress my Barbie like this, and she wore electric blue spandex.
Just in case there's any question about it later- open toe, stiletto heel, pink sequin shoes are ugly.
What do I think about the outfit? Eh, it's a little wrap-tastic. It's not awful, but I wouldn't wear it.

Givenchy- Baggy Pants
03.22.07 (4:03 pm) [edit]

This outfit is okay from the waist up. Some parts are more okay than others. lol For example, I really like the jacket. I think it has a great texture, and it can be made casual or dressy, depending on what you wear with it. The shirt, I'm a little less fond of, but it's bearable.
The pants are a different story. They are AWFUL!! Look how painfully tight they are around her ankles, but how baggy they are around her stomach (in an attempt to keep this blog at least a PG13, we'll pretend that's what that area of her body is called). the bagginess is bizarre, and I can't think of a single girl that wants her pants to look like this. BAD!!!!

Jewelry Coupons
03.22.07 (3:54 pm) [edit]
*This is a sponsored post.
I found a site today that has coupons for different online jewelry stores. Some of their deals right now are Blue Nile coupons to the tune of 10% off, and 10-20% off Ross-Simmons. Not only are their coupons for these kind of places, but other clothing, fashion, jewelry, and health places online.
Guys, if you are getting your special girl some jewelry sometime soon, this is a great chance to get it for a decent price. Trust me- she doesn't care what you paid for it. Only how much it sparkles. Girls- if you have been planning on getting some jewelry, this is a good way to get a good deal. I know I'm not the only one out here that likes jewelry AND a bargain.
And say you have no interest in buying jewelry or anything else fashion related. They've also got ones for travel, home decor, music, computers, etc. It's just a great overall coupon site, and a good place to check if you're going to buy anything online.

Givenchy- Ridiculous Neck
03.22.07 (3:45 pm) [edit]

There isn't a single piece of this outfit that works for me, although a couple of pieces come close. The pants are okay, except the legs are just too wide. The sweater is okay, except that it's a bit too oppressive at the neck. The jacket is okay, if you ignore the top half and get rid of that silly collar. All of it had a chance to be great, but it all fails.

Givenchy- Hairy Coat
03.22.07 (3:42 pm) [edit]

How am I supposed to even discuss this seriously? They try and make it look so wearable by using a standard cut long jacket, pants, sweater, etc., but they use a ridiculous King Kong type fur for the jacket. It's Cousin It fashion, and there's no way I'd wear something like this.
As far as the outfit underneath, it's cute. The pants are a little baggy in front, and the wide legs aren't back yet, so that looks a little odd, but all in all, it's acceptable.

Givenchy- Bubble Shirt
03.22.07 (3:39 pm) [edit]

There is something distinctly 80's about this outfit. I think that's why I hate it so much.
This Givenchy shirt has such bubbled-out sleeves, and such detail pleated into the outfit that it looks strange. The epaulets slid down her shoulders. Also, the hideous gold pyramids are something that are used throughout this collection. I find it hard to express how much I detest this. But the pants look comfy. lol

Oops! What I meant to say is that I don't consider myself one of the spelling police. I don't follow people around trying to make sure they spell everything correctly. I can't. The truth is, everyone makes mistakes. About half the time, I misspell recommend, even though I KNOW how it's spelled. I really want to spell it "reccommend" instead, because it just looks right to me.
There's a new site that lets you website spell check your blog. Yes, you can use it on this blog. How?? You enter the URL, it takes care of it for you. I guess I still don't know the actual process, but I don't need to know it to be impressed.

Zac Posen- Too Many Layers
03.21.07 (7:28 pm) [edit]

I've been telling you for a while how layers are going to be the next big trend. But if you decide to take part in this fashion trend, don't make the mistake seen here.
There is a straight pencil skirt underneath all of the layers. On top of that is a layer of shiny black satin. On top of that is a more matte black fabric. All of this is topped off with a very heavyweight looking shirt. There just isn't anything cute about it.

Zac Posen- Ribbon
03.21.07 (7:25 pm) [edit]

Can you tell from the last 200 posts that black, opaque tights are going to be HUGE this fall/winter??
I like this suit, but I'm not sure it brings a serious appearance to the workplace. If you're going to wear a suit, this probably isn't the best one to choose. The sleeves are a little too whimsical with the ribbon and the 3/4 length. And the ribbon along the breast is a bit young too. It's very lovely, but is it something to be worn to impress your boss? Probably not.

Zac Posen- Furry Coat
03.21.07 (7:19 pm) [edit]

I love this coat. It looks so warm and comfortable, and yet also luxurious. How often can you combine beautiful style with comfort?
The arms are generously sized, so if you're like me, you won't get in the car and find yourself so uncomfortable that you have to ditch the coat. Just throw it on and tie it. Even better, customize the look a little bit. Pull the belt off and use a long scarf to tie it. It brings some color in, and lets you jazz it up even more.

This call may be monitored...
03.21.07 (7:11 pm) [edit]
*This is a sponsored post.
It seems like I am constantly taking on companies. Sometimes it's a pleasant complaint (yes, there is such a thing). Other times, I am ready to single-handedly destroy their entire industry. lol But every single time, I always get that same message. "This call may be recorded." The reason they use their Phone Recorder varies. Sometimes they are doing it for quality control purposes. Sometimes they are just nosy. lol
I have no doubt they are actually recording my call, although there's always that nagging maybe-they-are-maybe-they -aren't question in the back of my mind as I sit on hold. Will this be the time I REALLY lose my temper like I did with one horrible scamming computer company in NY? It ended with me making some comment about her mother's extracurricular activities, and the lady hanging up on me. For the record, I don't recommend you go that route.
Believe it or not, the places I've gotten the most help from and had the best interactions with have been recorded, and I knew they were. The car dealership's service department did not record the conversation and they lied to me and tried to cheat me. Mattel recorded the conversation when I called them about my daughter sticking a Barbie shoe up her nose. That shoe was the same color as her nasal lining, and even though I took her to the ER the night she did it, the doctor said he couldn't find it. I did not call Mattel seeking any compensation. But I did want them to change the color of the shoe. If it was purple, green, or black, it would not have spent a year in there. They were friendly and helpful, and they sent me a $15 gift certificate. But beyond that, I really felt they listened to my input. With that recording, they could go back to the designers, play it for them, and the designers would say, "Oh geez!! Yeah, let's make it dark blue instead!"
So needless to say, I'm kinda fond of them recording my message.

Zac Posen- Bad Mermaid Dress
03.21.07 (7:00 pm) [edit]

This is a really hideous example of a mermaid style dress. It's too puffy on bottom compared with the rest of the gown, and the shoulders are something straight out of a nightmare. It looks so Disney Villian, and that's never a good look.

Comme des Garcon- Purple Straightjacket
03.21.07 (3:46 pm) [edit]

Yet again, we have the appearance of cheap, cutesy, Walmart-esque socks. Why????
This looks like they layered velvet over velvet. That's a bad move right there. The pile on velvet will cling, and make it look awful. And then, it seems as though they used a very tight purple t-shirt, cut it, and stretched it across to make a way too tight jacket. To me, it looks like a bright lavender straightjacket. Even if you stand back from it and look at it with your eyes squinted, it's just not that cute. lol

Comme des Garcon- Elephant Tusks
03.21.07 (10:45 am) [edit]

Check my other fashion blog for more Comme des Garcon weirdness. And there will be more in the coming days, including a strange one that I actually like.
This one is similar to the hands outfit, except that there's nothing identifiable about what they stuffed and shoved on the shoulders. Is it elephant tusks? I don't know.
I can't help but remember the first season of Project Runway, when the girl sewed the dress for the "envy" challenge. They were supposed to use the word "Envy" as inspiration for their design. One girl (Starr, I think) sewed a dress that had stuffed tumors on the shoulder. She tried to convince people that it was because the envy was eating them up like a tumor. What a lovely sentiment. *rolling eyes* Anyway, this dress makes me think of that. And you know there just aren't enough garments with tumors sewn on the shoulder. *rolling eyes so much it hurts!*

Comme des Garcon- Give 'em a Hand
03.21.07 (10:20 am) [edit]

Can you spot the weirdness hiding in this outfit? No, it's not the hair that says she got caught in an electrical storm. It's not the frilly bottom attached to the bottom of her mismatched track suit. It's not the puffball socks that would look better with a poodle skirt.
It's the mysterious hand, groping her from behind. See at the waist?
And guess what? This is one of the more normal outfits in the collection. Strange, huh?

Win Prizes by Searching
03.20.07 (7:29 pm) [edit]
*This is a sponsored post.
I'm signed up with several places that let you search and win prizes, but tonight I found a new one. It works similar to the others, but I like that you can do up to 15 searches a day in order to have a chance at winning. The new site is called Wabbadabba - search and win.
The idea is simple. You sign up, do a normal search, and you can win all kinds of prizes, such as an Amazon gift certificate. Just so you know, the company is based in the UK, so some of their search results and prizes are geared towards UK users. There's no popups, there's no clicking required, there's no need to provide any details, and there's no popups. Sweet, huh?

Zac Posen- Bad Camera Shot
03.20.07 (7:20 pm) [edit]

The dress isn't awful. No, really. Quit laughing. The curved ribbon at the top is very graceful, and the cut is simple, but elegant. But then the model had to cram her hands into the pockets. Now it looks like she is going to give birth, right there on that runway.
Again, black tights. WHY?!?!

Zac Posen- Gorgeous Dress, Bad Accessories
03.20.07 (7:17 pm) [edit]

Everytime I hear of Zac Posen, I have to choke down the urge to call him "Zac Poseur". Why? Because it's EASY...
Off with the nonsense and on to the garment! I adore this dress. The ribbon accents are perfect, the cut is perfect, the color is perfect-the dress is perfect. But it starts to fail when you look at the accessories. Black tights? Long black gloves? It makes an otherwise gorgeous dress look a little too dominatrix.

Comme des Garcon- Bunched Flowers
03.19.07 (10:18 am) [edit]

I hate this outfit, but after you see some of the other ones tommorow, you'll understand why I end up almost liking it.
The flowers are weird. There just isn't any other word for it. I was listening to Gwen Stefani in the car Saturday, and one of the songs talks about Comme des Garcon. I told my husband about how ugly most of the stuff is.
Sorry, I know I haven't talked much about the garment here, but you've got eyes. Is this not one of the strangest ideas you've ever seen? If not, just wait. It gets MUCH weirder. It's enough to make you long for stuffed flower fashions.

Comme des Garcon
03.19.07 (10:13 am) [edit]

It's very odd that this is the most wearable item in the entire collection. In fact, it's rather boring. If you can manage to ignore the weird Mickey Mouse ears, this is actually fairly cute. The top is frilly and feminine, and the skirt has a beautiful texture. The socks are a little too cheap looking for my tastes, but it's not *that* bad.
Be forewarned- they get MUCH stranger from here on out. Check over the next few days for the really bizarre ones.

Great for Broadcasters, Awful for Me.
03.15.07 (6:01 pm) [edit]
*This is a sponsored post.
Several years ago, I had a project for an internet radio station where I am a researcher. I had to find every station that broadcast at least a certain amount of time each week. I had to do this for 3 separate kinds of music. I remember that there were two separate sites that REALLY wiped me out. They are the kind of site where anyone can broadcast a show, and they are setup to run continuously, so naturally, they qualified under the guidelines. Since then, one has gone paid, and the other serves mostly as a compilation list of the kind of stations I was compiling.
Now there's a new one. Anyone can setup a free broadcast in less than 15 minutes. Their name is Radio Free TriBeCa. It's a fantastic tool for people looking to broadcast their music, and if you are already a DJ, you can do a simulcast. It's a brilliant idea, and hopefully I never have to put together a list like that again. This one site would wipe me out. :D

Balenciaga- Skirt
03.15.07 (5:51 pm) [edit]

This could have been SOOOO cute. And then the designer decided to experiment. The left side is cute, and it looks really great with the top. The right side isn't bad, at least as far as what is visible. But then there's the middle. And there's no way to justify whatever is going on there.
Final note: the shoes are SERIOUSLY ugly!

Balenciaga- Wrap Top
03.15.07 (5:48 pm) [edit]

This top has an interesting print, but aside from one aspect, there's nothing to really distinguish it from any other wrap top. That one aspect is in the lower left corner. See the white part where it's shredded? It's an interesting idea to make your own fringe like that, and this is probably the best that could be hoped for from that style, but it's still not great. It looks like she was on the losing end of a paper shredder fight.

Balenciaga- Odd Jacket
03.15.07 (5:43 pm) [edit]

I'm not too fond of this jacket. The bottom appears to be suede while the sleeves and corset-type belt are patent leather. Although that could be a trick of the light. Also, the hips are awful. They stand out, and are squared off.
At first, I thought that the man's shoe in the lower right corner was part of the jacket, and that it was asymetrical. Thank goodness it's not, and it's much more tolerable because of it. But there still enough wrong with it to declare this a fashion mistake.

Why do they do such ridiculous hairstyles and makeup on the runway?
03.15.07 (12:05 pm) [edit]
This is in response to a question PastorDave asked about some odd makeup seen in a runway show. But it's also to everyone else as well. I have a Professor friend who constantly scratches his head at the thought of models who have their hair done in a style that makes it look like they are wearing a top hat. Even I have wondered why they would possibly make the models look so strange.
The reason is simple. Click here to visit my other site and see an actual fashion show. Do you notice how many people are in the audience? It's the same principle that stage actors deal with. They have to know you are there from WAYYYYY back in the back row. Stage actors can speak louder so that they are able to be heard, but what about models? They don't speak at all. But what happens when you put a ridiculout hairstyle or taped on eyebrows on them? They instantly become more noticeable.
It's a gimmick. It gets people leaning out of their seats to see what that smudge above her eyes is. In their heads, they are thinking, "Well that looks stupid! Oh, shoot! I've got to write about this outfit, not the eyebrows. Fine. Ummmm, blue pants, black shirt, freakin' ugly. I'll get details from the photos later." Otherwise, they are more likely to forget it. They will go back to their offices after having seen COUNTLESS fashion shows within one week, and be forced to recall every single outfit. Which ones do you think will get more attention- the one with ugly hair, or the one that was completely unremarkable? Look at the Professor. He can still recall the hair and probably would be able to describe the outfit. But what about something by Michael Kors who just does normal, wearable clothing? I bet you it would get the response, "I don't follow fashion." Memory is affected by the unusual, and designers know this.

Table Lamps
03.15.07 (10:05 am) [edit]
*This is a sponsored post.
I've been looking at all kinds of furnishings for my new apartment. It seems like there is a reason why everything I own won't work. lol It's sort of like that line in Fight Club, "It's just, when you buy furniture, you tell yourself, that's it. That's the last sofa I'm gonna need. Whatever else happens, I've got that sofa problem handled." Only it never is. :D
Take my lamps for instance. I have one that's great for a kid's room. But I'm not about to put that in my living room. And I'm not about to live by the glow of the tv set either. So I've got to find a lamp. Maybe like a Quoizel Lamp. Actually, this one is just funky enough to go with the style I want to do in my apartment. It would be like a contemporary/Bombay sort of look. For the bedroom, maybe I'll go with something a little more unusual.

Balenciaga- Different Duster
03.15.07 (9:50 am) [edit]

This is going to be a very short post, because I've already discussed my hatred for most of these items when they were used in other Balenciaga garments in this collection.
I like the duster much better this time. It blends much better, and losing the sleeves really helps. Having pockets in a sheer garment is a little bizarre though (you can see her hand peeking through on the right). EVERYTHING else about it is worthless from the shirt to the shoes. And one cute duster is not enough to save this monstrosity.
|
|
|

Balenciaga- Black and Cream Duster
03.15.07 (9:46 am) [edit]

I'm declaring this to be a duster, because I'm not sure what other term would apply. It's not a jacket because of the length. It's not a dress because it opens. But I'm just as confused by the style as you are.
I'm going to ignore the boots and tights since I already discussed them in the last entry. But I will talk about the skirt (again, if that's what it is) and the duster.
The skirt is not a good idea. It's completely see through with fringe on the bottom. Yikes! The duster has various cutouts and patterns sewn into it. As such, it just looks like they tried too hard. It's a forced beauty, and even then, it doesn't succeed.

Balenciaga- Black Dress
03.15.07 (9:40 am) [edit]

I totally missed the memo that said that bustles were coming back in style. A bustle is the thing that used to be worn to make a dress full around the hips or butt. Think Victorian style dresses. How do I know it's a bustle? There's no way that girl has THAT much junk in the trunk combined with that small of a waist.
I hate this style. It's lumpy and harsh and looks like you paired some really rigid leather with knit. Furthermore, I want somebody to be held accountable in a court of law for those boots. Bright, electric blue tights UNDER knit pants, combined with open toe moccasin boots?!? So bad.

Badgely Mischka- Interesting Top
03.14.07 (9:33 am) [edit]

Here we have the same tight black pants in the caped outfit I like so much, and the same turtleneck from some of the other pieces. But there is the new addition of a jacket.
The jacket is not my favorite. I hate the sleeves and the poofiness at the wrists, and also how it balloons around the gathered waist. There is an actual waistband, and I detest those sort of jackets. Furthermore, the way it ties in front is just a little too strange for my tastes. I do like the neckline with the two buttons that stand out against the fabric, however.

Rumors!
03.14.07 (9:22 am) [edit]
*This is a sponsored post.
Most of my loyal readers know that I accept sponsored posts. Hey, I'm a work at home mom, and I gotta find a way to pay the bills, ya know? There's a great deal of controversy about it, but then again, I've heard controversy about toothpaste...
In this post, I'm not supposed to talk about a product like I usually do. I'm supposed to tell you that PayPerPost has something new in the works. Only, nobody knows what it is. Except me. I'm dead certain I have it figured out.
In an effort to increase site traffic, PPP is going to buy Great Britain. I know, I know. It sounds completely ridiculous. But bear with me. See, about a month ago, they went on a business trip to Britain. They talked about how one of them snores and about eating blood pudding, but they didn't talk about their meetings. So, obviously something is very hush-hush. And I suspect that a meeting with the Queen is very hush-hush, so it must have been talks to purchase the country. How ya like that logic?? ;)
Now, I know you're wondering why Britain. Easy! They started looking at the percentage of the population that was on the internet, and decided on a top three list. That list was comprised of Britain, United States, and Australia. The United States is just too expensive to even consider purchasing. Ask Congress! And Australia? Well, they used a dirty phrase that I'm still trying to decipher, but they added "mate" onto the end, so it still managed to sound cheery. :)
Don't believe me? Just watch! The Queen is ready to quit because everyone is confusing her with Helen Mirren. Tony Blair is leaving- now isn't that convenient?? And the British empire consists of countries that can rule themselves just fine, thank you very much.
After they take over, they will air commercials every three minutes that try to get people to join. And in an effort to offset those ridiculous fees they charge you to have a working tv set, people will join in droves. Except Alan Moore. He will write a graphic novel about it with PPP as a thinly veiled villain.
They can't announce the deal yet because the British are still a little uncertain about abdicating the throne to an Irish-American named Ted Murphy. So that's what's holding up the deal. There's also the fact that he appears to be mad. I mean, who else would pay someone good money to make up complete and utter lies about him and his company? I'm sure they will get it worked out.
Now for the disclaimers: I don't actually have any proof that Britain is being sold, that Alan Moore hates PPP (although you know he does cause it's Alan Freakin' Moore), or that Ted Murphy is insane. But I'm dead certain that the US is too expensive to buy, or Microsoft would have already tried. :D

Badgely Mischka- Hunting
03.14.07 (8:51 am) [edit]

This outfit is a mixture of good and bad elements. It looks like a nice outfit for a hunt, but who hunts anymore?! At least, not this kind of hunting.
The sleeves are the WRONG length. By having a 3/4 length sleeve, you are implying a sense of playfulness. It's flirty. Why you would ever mix a hunt with flirtiness is beyond me. Also, I think the gloves and boots are a bit too shiny. They look out of place with the more traditional aspects of the outfit. A nice, soft, buttery leather would look much better.
That being said, the turtleneck looks very nice underneath it, and the jewelry is superb.

Badgely Mischka- Goth
03.14.07 (7:54 am) [edit]

I included an image from an outfit I reviewed a couple of entries ago. The reason why I put it here is because it had many similarities to this outfit. And oddly enough, the same things that work in the previous one fail here. The cape in both photos is the same. Both have black leather gloves and head to toe black fabric.
Where the top photo differs from the bottom one is in the shirt, pants, and belt. The shirt looks like some weird kind of crinkled leather in this one. The pants are loose and baggy, which takes away from the cape. And the belt was unnecessary before. The first outfit looked like some kind of VERY upscale hunting inspired outfit. This one looks like a VERY upscale outfit your goth daughter throws on to go to the mall. Not a good downfall, is it?

Badgley Mischka- Furry Shirt
03.12.07 (12:22 pm) [edit]

Needless to say, one of the big themes in Badgely Mischka's collection was fur.
This top is cute, but casual. It's easy to see Lindsey Lohan or one of the Olsen twins wearing it. I love it paired with the beautiful grey turtleneck underneath, and the gold jewelry brings out some warm tones in the top. The sunglasses are also especially nice with this outfit, and they found a good style to suit the shape of the model's face. I don't care too much for the pants paired with this shirt, but alone they would be nice.

Badgley Mischka- Furry Cape
03.12.07 (12:15 pm) [edit]

Who knew I'd love something I write about under the heading "Furry Cape"? But I do love it. Everything about this should inspire my hatred. I dislike capes, I hate skinny jeans. I can't stand boots worn over the bottom of pants. I am bored to death with chandelier earrings. And I like a little more color than this. But somehow, the combination works.
It's a classy and upscale look. And the gloves really impress me. It finishes the look.

Saving money on designer goods
03.12.07 (11:58 am) [edit]
*This is a sponsored post.
When I start looking for designer accessories to buy, it goes without saying that I start trying to find online coupons too. There is a site named Keeca.com that has its own "beauty" section where you can find coupons and deals on beauty products. From their site, I found some GORGEOUS Emilio Pucci Sandals that used to sell for almost $400. They are marked down to slightly less than $160. There's just no reason to spend that much on shoes, when you can find the exact same one from the exact same designer (no knockoffs) for a lower price. I don't take joy in knowing that I paid the most for something. I take a lot of joy in looking great at an acceptable price.
The best thing about the site is that it has a wide range of sites on its coupon list, and also that they are very liberal with the listings. For example, there are some luggage sites listed under "beauty". Because they carry stylish bags for travel, this could easily fit under the beauty category.

Badgley Mischka- Furry Coat
03.12.07 (10:45 am) [edit]

At first I really hated this coat, and not just because I'm opposed to fur. They are making some really good fakes nowadays, and I can't usually tell if it's fake unless they dye it hot pink. So typically I give them the benefit of the doubt, and assume that it's fake.
The reason I hated it is because the fur was too wide on the bottom. It is such a thick fur that I think it stands out at a weird angle from the rest of the coat, and it goes too far down.
But the more I look at it, the more I love it. This is a coat for bold women. And a bold woman will not say, "Ew, it has three inches too much fur on the bottom." The boots are phenomenally cute with it, and the fur at the top looks so luxurious. But my favorite part is the belt. I just don't notice belts that much. It's not something I usually wear, and if any area of my own accessorizing is weak, it's belts. This one gets my attention though. It looks like the decorative part of the belt is at the ends, and it wraps around so that they overlap, and ties on the side. It's an interesting style to match an interesting coat.
After some initial trepidation, I love this and I wish it was hanging in my closet.

Badgley Mischka- Playing Grownup
03.12.07 (10:37 am) [edit]

This dress is pretty, but perhaps that is its downfall. It looks like a costume a little girl might wear when she wants to go trick or treating as a movie star. The dress itself is not awful, but it is too over the top for actual wear.
It has an interesting silhouette. The way the lacey fabric floats alongside the more shapely solid fabric is pretty. But I dislike the top. It's trashy and looks like a bad soap opera scene. The shoulders, and the whole dress as an extension, would look much better if it had the straps on her shoulders, as opposed to falling down around her arms. There are some that are meant to be worn down around the arms, and although this is that way, it doesn't look like it. Also, it makes her look too full-chested. The dress is just too tight around the bust line, and it looks slightly painful.
It's not good, but it's not quite to awful either.

Yves Saint Laurent- Odd Jacket
03.09.07 (3:49 pm) [edit]

This is an extremely unique jacket cut. Ultimately, it's up to you to decide if you like such a thing. I do like the jacket, but only because it's not too out there, nor is it too normal. It's got just a touch of interesting.
But that's where my like for it stops. I hate the dress underneath, and I'm actually vaguely threatened by the headgear. I saw "The Cell" with J. Lo, and there's one scene in there that reminds me of it. The whole movie was like a horrific acid trip of a horror movie (no, I don't actually know what an acid trip is like, but if you've seen it, tell me I'm wrong). For some reason, that scene in particular just really freaked me out. Anyway, the model looks like she could be the one sitting on that beach in triplicate, whispering weird things to a detective who basically responds, "Uh, okay". Actually, "Uh, okay" kinda sums up my feelings perfectly, both on the movie and this outfit.

Yves Saint Laurent- One Crazy Gold Outfit
03.09.07 (3:44 pm) [edit]

I just do not like this at all. The gold is too cheap looking, the texture is too much, and the shape is soooo bland. And then there's the DARK black leggings peeking out from under the dress. See, this is why opaque tights went out of style in the first place. That's hideous! It's too unnatural a look, and it's going to be ugly on practically everyone.
Bad, bad, bad!!!!

Maternity Fashion
03.08.07 (4:56 pm) [edit]
*This is a sponsored post.
I know what you're thinking. There is no such thing as maternity fashion. With two kids of my own, I've been there, and it's a vast wasteland of fashion. All the clothes seem to put you in outfits that are fit for the child they are carrying, but not for the mom.
Now there's a product that let's you wear your favorite jeans. And as any girl knows, a sexy pair of jeans turns you into a sexy girl. There's nothing that can beat that perfect pair of jeans. It's some hip & cool b-buckles. You put on your normal, non-maternity jeans, and loop this around your belt buckles. It keeps them closed, and you sexy as ever.
Lots of celebs are using this, and that's why they always look so good, even when they are pregnant. It's not just because they can afford some hot maternity clothes. Because frankly, there is no such thing. This lets them slide into their normal, designer jeans, and look as beautiful as ever. Here's some photos of it.

Yves Saint Laurent- Too Textured
03.08.07 (4:47 pm) [edit]

This dress is similar to the last one in reversing the textured trend. But unlike the last one that was simply not a success, this one is an outright failure.
Nobody wants a dress that makes the look lumpy. Oddly enough, this is the kind of dress that would look VERY cute on the hanger, but as soon as you put it on a person, it becomes a disaster.
Apart from the texture, I still hate it. Even if this was smoothed out, but the same style, it wouldn't do it for me. It's too juvenile a style to really work. It looks like a girl playing dressup in mommy's heels and gloves.

|

Yves Saint Laurent- Crinkled Dress
03.08.07 (4:42 pm) [edit]

This dress is a little too textured for my tastes. The trick to using texture in the upcoming trend is to do so sparingly. You don't need to have an entire outfit that is crinkled like this one. Instead, go for a sleeker outfit and one textured element. Accessories work best for the texture.
They sort of tried to do that here. Only they got it backwards. And in a sense, the outfit is a success. Fashion is about taking risks and experimenting with clothing. This outfit does that. It takes a trend that is going to be big, and does it in reverse. Sadly, it wasn't done well. It's not an overall flop, but it's just not wearable.

A different sort of entry.
03.08.07 (12:38 pm) [edit]
This doesn't have *that* much to do with fashion, but it's a fun read anyway.
I am constantly amazed at how people find my blog. When I login and check out the number of visits I have, it tells me where they came from. And some of them make me laugh. I realize that not all of these are actual visitors. I get the way it works. Still amusing.
It seems that "Virginia Madsen's boobs" is a very popular search. Number 9 on google. You perverts!
Lately, there have been a lot of searches for "Barbara Tfank". Interesting. Before starting this blog, I had not heard of her. At one point, I ranked higher in the search engines than Elle.com, which is where I found photos of the site. There's something very wrong with that.
Today I got a visit from "donut and toast sew". I can't even imagine what the person was trying to find. Even worse, I'm disappointed that I'm not number on on this search. I'm third.
Someone recently searched for "Streetwalker platform heels". Sorry, my entries are usually a little more tame than that.
I had a search for "Kyra Sedgewick's husband's name". It's Kevin Bacon, by the way.
Someone recently typed in "Should I bring a purse to Paris". Yes, you should. The need to carry a purse does not stop once you hit international waters.
"Judy Reyes boobs" and "Julia Louis-Dreyfus. You're still perverts.
"Marquise diamonds are tacky" Not my position at all. I rather like marquise diamonds, but I think it depends entirely on the setting.
"Why did Italian Renaissance clothing look the way it did?" Because Coco Chanel hadn't educated us all about fashion yet.
"cleaner chloe sorry snake river conspiracy" Uh-huh. Good luck with your search.
And my favorite, "apologies for lying". I rank at number six, after entries about Bush, Kerry, WMDs, Microsoft, and an episode of Angel. Wow. That's mighty company.
There's one post of mine that seems to get an extraordinary number of hits. It's for a Christian Lacroix dress. I have no idea why it's so popular.
To anyone who has searched using these terms, welcome. I'm not making fun of you, but I am amazed that Viginia Madsen's boobs are so wildly popular. ;)

Yves Saint Laurent- Silver Dress
03.07.07 (4:25 pm) [edit]

It's not often that you can say somebody invented something in fashion. Oftentimes, innovation comes from the unique way people manipulate certain aspects of the garment. In a way, that's still true with this dress, but in a way, it's not. I have never before seen sleeves like these. That's right, we have a new sleeve style, not that I see it catching on and becoming popular. It's a fluttery cocoon-like sleeve that is large and free-flowing, but also sort of like a cape.
The dress has an interesting pattern with silver on silver sunbursts throughout the dress. And apart from the sleeves, and to a certain extent the neckline, it's completely unremarkable.

There is a site where you can search for credit cards and determine the best one for you. This can be found at http://www.cardreviewer.com/dest?id=551" title="http://www.cardreviewer.com/dest?id=551" target="_blank"http://www.cardreviewer.com/d.... I think this kind of information is helpful, because it lets you know what's out there. My own credit card just raised my credit limit, but they also raised the already high interest rate. So I'll be shopping for another card to replace it soon. The trick is to replace the card, and not get another one in addition to it. This site has an extra bonus. They will send a $50 card to amazon.com to anyone who signs up. While I could never encourage you to sign up for a credit card without giving it serious consideration, being able to look at the different offers available and comparison shop might save you a lot of money in the long run. If so, why not get the $50 card from them?

Yves Saint Laurent- Monochromatic
03.07.07 (4:08 pm) [edit]

This outfit is a little too monochromatic for my tastes, but as far as the outfit goes, it could be worse. The smooth texture of the suit jacket really works well with the textured skirt, and then it's balanced again with the smoothness of the leggings. The gloves, shoes, and whatever she has on her head help reinforce the strict one color. I'd prefer that it was mixed up with something shocking. Maybe some deep cherry red accessories.

|

Yves Saint Laurent- Pretty Dress
03.07.07 (4:04 pm) [edit]

This dress is so beautiful. It's got an interesting geometric pattern that is made of larger rectangles in the middle and smaller ones on the outside. But the really interesting part is how there are panels of sheer fabric where there the panel is a solid color. It adds so much to the dress. I love how the pattern is on a sheer fabric, because it looks like little pebbles near her feet when you catch a glimpse of it from the side.
Finally, I'm not a fan of bows, but this one adds so much to the dress that it's completely necessary. The satin takes the hard edge away from the geometric pattern and softens it considerably. This is one of my favorites from this collection.

03.06.07 (6:38 pm) [edit]
Make sure to check out my new blog at ToastTheTrends.com. There are sections for fashion, home decor, entertainment, electronics, and life.
One of the coolest features is that you can now search by categories. For example, If there is a particular designer you like, you can check the sidebar and find all the entries that relate to that designer. Or if you are in home decor, you can see all the entries that have to do with furniture. This applies across all the topics.
Enjoy!

Crocs
03.05.07 (11:36 am) [edit]
*This is a sponsored post.
I personally don't get Crocs. You know- those shoes that look like brightly colored recycled Livestrong bracelets in the shape of Dutch clogs? I know they are insanely popular, and I think everyone owns a pair except for me. When you have over 400 pairs of shoes, but no Crocs, that's saying a lot. lol
I'm sure they are REALLY comfortable. In fact, I wouldn't be surprised to find out they are the most comfortable shoe ever. And I am not saying I wouldn't own a pair. If I lived closer to an amusement park and we had season passes, I'd probably never take them off. Or if I did a lot of gardening, they might come in handy. Because that's what they have always reminded me of- the shoes in gardening catalogs. I can imagine my mother-in-law owning a pair of these so she can slip them on as she cares for her rose bushes.
The problem is, comfort isn't the only thing I'm looking for, and the style just doesn't do it for me. I'm sorry, but you're never going to convince me that I look hot in a pair of rubber shoes. I think there can be a nice balance between looking good and being comfortable. But frankly, I see more style in a pair of sneakers. Oh well. To each his own, right?

Yves Saint Laurent- Gloves with Sleeveless Outfit
03.05.07 (11:20 am) [edit]

This is an interesting look. Typically, long gloves with a sleeveless outfit tend to look a little harsh. That's just my opinion, of course, but I think it's a very aggressive style. It's almost like you are assaulting people with your femininity.
Just on that alone, I'm not fond of this. But when you add in the extremely wide band at the top of the gloves, I just don't care for it at all.

Yves Saint Laurent- Fluffy Coat
03.05.07 (11:13 am) [edit]

Apparently, big coats are in for next fall/winter. I am much more fond of this big coat than the last one.
While it's nice to see something a little unusual, I'm not sure this really works. It's a little too much like cotton balls that have been dyed black and stuck together to make winter wear. It's not awful, but it's not great either.

Yves Saint Laurent- Croc and the Scared Model
03.05.07 (8:37 am) [edit]

Does the model not look startled??
Well, this outfit is just about the best it could be if you combine turtlenecks, vests, and head to toe croc pattern fabric. And I do kind of mean that in a nice way. It really is better than the combination of its parts.
Sadly, that's not enough. There's just nothing about it that makes me want it. It's bland, and that's on a good day.

Yves Saint Laurent- Baggy Coat
03.05.07 (8:32 am) [edit]

It's so hard to like this coat. On one hand, it's nicely made, uses gorgeous fabric, and has a style that will last you several seasons. But on the other hand, it was made for a size 4X man.
When you look at the skirt next to it, it's absolutely ridiculous in comparison. The proportion is all wrong. And yet, when I go shopping, I like larger coats, rather than something more fitted. But I think this is TOO baggy.

Yves Saint Laurent- Classic Beauty
03.05.07 (8:28 am) [edit]

This outfit is so Audrey Hepburn-esque, and yet, it's a modern take on it. Gone is the little black dress to end all little black dresses. In its place are nicely trousers. The wide brimmed hat and large sunglasses are gone too, but somehow, they aren't missed with this outfit. There's nothing overly amazing about this as far as the construction goes, but it works together well and looks flattering.

I heard about a candy today that sounds delicious. White and dark chocolate covered espresso beans. YUMMM!!! I hate milk chocolate. In fact, I have a slight allergy to it (horrible, I know). But I LOVE dark and white chocolate. And I'm pretty fond of espressos too. lol
Now, some people are gonna be put off by the name. It's called Crackheads Candy. But think about it. You gotta be a little messed up to love that concoction (and I mean that as the highest compliment). That's some serious caffeine potential. lol
They've also got some t-shirts. Buy some Crackheads candy / gear here! You can get them at this site, or at Thinkgeek.com.
They wanted to provide me with a sample, and you know I'm all about the free samples. Hey! Crackhead Candy guys! I'd love to try them. You figure out a way to get in touch with me (comments are always good), I'll get you my address and I'll try them and report back how much I like them. ;) Deal????

03.01.07 (7:17 pm) [edit]

I actually don't have a problem with some of this. The sweater looks great, and the shirt is okay. The pants are beyond bizarre, and then there's the hat.
Actually, I'm not sure it is a hat. Perhaps she was towel drying her hair and forgot about it. Maybe a sheep took up residence on her head. I don't know. All I know is, it's strange.

Vivienne Westwood- Writing
03.01.07 (7:13 pm) [edit]

This outfit isn't quite as silly as the others. Instead it's just ugly. lol The skirt is shapeless, the top is a weird cape sort of thing, the whole thing matches a little too much, and then there's the part with the writing. It sort of looks like a maternity panel, except that most pregnant women try to hide those and make them match the clothing, where this one likes to stand out as much as possible.

Vivienne Westwood- Toxic Waste Cleanup
03.01.07 (7:09 pm) [edit]

You know you're looking at some seriously ugly fashion when one of the best outfits looks like something you would wear to clean up after an oil spill at sea. But that's what we have here.
Again, we have the slouchy boots. I hate those slouchy boots. And then there's the glow-in-the-dark yellow coat that is way too large. The t-shirt is okay, and the overalls actually have the slightest amount of promise. I've got a pair of overalls similar to this, and the reason I like them is because they are young and funky. But they achieve it through the cut rather than being a strange color. The blue just isn't working (mine are beige by the way). Also, mine have a bit of a waistline, instead of being this baggy.

I think one of the bears right outside the cave got her. ;)
More shredded pants, more cave art prints, more absurd scarfs. Sadly, this is the theme she's going with.
The shirt is kinda cute, but as with some of the other pieces, it's one of those that ends up being a little too cutesy. Unfortunately, the rest of this mess just brings it down.

Sell your art
03.01.07 (4:35 pm) [edit]
*This is a sponsored post.
One of the little known facts about me (at least on this blog) is that I am an artist. I do a craft known as egg art, and I've recently had the chance to sell some in a few places. This is a real goose egg, which has butterfly shapes cut into it, and is decorated with rhinestones. Here's an example (please note that my camera is lousy, and this is a work in progress).
There's a new website that will let artists sell their pieces online. This gives me a wider opportunity to get my pieces out there. They make it very easy to sell your art online. You create your account, describe your items, ship them as people place orders, and get paid. You get 80% of the amount, and they handle all the promotion and business aspects of it. You simply get to be an artist and get paid for making something beautiful.
There is a 60 day free trial, and after that, it's $10 a month. I'm definitely going to give this a try once my life calms down a bit. I think it's a good opportunity, and it keeps me coming up with fresh ideas.
Also, say you don't want to sell anything, but you want to find some cool jewelry or apparel. Take a look, because they've got a great selection.

Wow. I kinda got out of writing about the last one, because there wasn't too much to write about. It was all just a plaid mess. So, I guess that means I have to write about this, huh?
This looks like something a jester would wear. Except I'm pretty sure jesters can manage to button their clothing properly. I mean seriously! Can you imagine the conversation backstage?
"Psst. I think you buttoned that wrong. Viv's gonna have a fit!"
"How can you tell."
"Welllll, look at it."
"I am, and there are more buttons that holes!"
"Just see if you can get away with it. Who knows what she's thinking."

March Birthday Recommendation
03.01.07 (3:55 pm) [edit]
It's time for the birthday recommendation of the month. This is provided as a quick and easy way to find a nice birthday present for the fashionista in your life.

For this month, I'm recommending the Beige "Zoe" Hobo Purse (check in the "hobo bags" section). I reviewed it on my other site, but the more I look at it, the more I want it.
It's a beige leatherette bag that has a zipper top, an inside zipper pocket, an open pocket, and a cell phone holder. Somehow, this bag manages to be classic and unique at the same time. And say the beige doesn't do it for you. There is also black and dark brown to choose from.
For under $30, you will have bought that special birthday girl a gift she will carry every day. It can go with a really wide range of outfits, and it looks like a more expensive bag than it really is.
Cheers, and happy birthday to everyone born in March. We've got two March birthdays here in my own house, so you are all in good company. :D

Vivienne Westwood- Layers
03.01.07 (9:09 am) [edit]

It's another fun filled day of fugly from Vivienne Westwood!! lol
This outfit is a mess. There are at least four scarfs here, none of them sufficient to keep out the cold. And then another four layers in the- well, I'm not sure if that's pants or a skirt. Combine it with the gold cape hanging off one shoulder and the Three Musketeers boots, and yikes! And I think I spot a pale blue corset top under there, but under all the scarfs, who can tell?

I tried this on another blog (or perhaps it was here). Regardless, it's something I'm going to start using more often, probably on my other site. See, on my own domain name, I have to worry about all the stuff like bandwidth and storage space. And with a fashion blog that has photos for pretty much every entry, I'm going to get in trouble quickly. If you take into account the fact that it's a series of blogs, and they will all have just as many photos as this one, I'm going to fly through my storage space in a few days.
But this new widget offers 1 gig worth of space to host your files, photos, and videos. So let's give this a try here, so you can see how cool it is. Trust me, seeing it is self-explanatory and really cool. Here are three photos I recently talked about. I'm doing these so that you can compare them with the past photos here, and decide if it's something you like. Even better, you can download or share the files. Say you are a small game developer. You can put the game online this way, and let people share it.
Get your own Box.net widget and share anywhere!
The coolest part comes when you try to use it yourself. It's easy. There are boxes where you can browse for files on your computer and then upload it. Then you decide how you want it to look, cut and paste a little code and you're done. Instant file sharing Box.net Widget. EASY!
