Trump's Furniture Line
07.26.07 (11:57 am)   [edit]
*This is a sponsored post.

I have to admit, I hate pretty much everything about Donald Trump. As a real estate investor, he irritates me. He builds bigger and larger and gaudier, without any thought as to whether it's a building worth having around for the next 50 years. His home is tacky, and looks like a Parisian museum. That's a great look for Paris, France, but a horrible look for an actual home, with all the marble and gold everywhere. His businesses are sort of disasters, and now he's branching out into other things such as television (whoever thought he would look nice on tv needs to be set straight), bottled water, and now, furniture. That's right. I've seen trump's new line of furniture. And as much as I hate to admit it, I like every piece in it.

I'm not a big fan of any celebrity lending their fame to selling furniture, but the designers actually managed to put together a nice collection here. The wood has beautiful dark, rich tones. The lines of the furniture are classic and sleek, and likely to look just as amazing many years from now as they do now. It's stylish, and I would consider owning any piece in the collection.

Fashion shows, writing, and schedule
07.26.07 (11:49 am)   [edit]
We are a little over a month away from the new fashion shows in New York. These are happening Sept. 4 through Sept. 12. Until then, there are a few shows I want to finish up, but we're nearing the end of the Fall/Winter 2007 Collections. We've seen lots of bronze, diagonals, and furry items. These are the ideas you can expect to see more in stores in the next few months. Also, a quick note. While the kids are out of school, it's really hard to keep up with 6 blogs. That's why my entries here have been sporadic. When they get in school in about a month, I will have more time on my hands, and I'll be able to post more. Until then, I apologize for the sporadic updates, but I hope you know I haven't abandoned this area.

Fendi- Fringe Skirt
07.26.07 (11:40 am)   [edit]

I should hate this, but part of me really loves the innovation of it. The fringe on it could look so heavy, but it's done in such a smart way so that it doesn't add lots of bulk. I think a lot of this is because of the bulkiness of the sweater. It's adding some weight on top to balance out the size on bottom. I would like to see it with a smooth bodysuit, but I suspect that it would look too Vegas to really shine.

Fendi- Feathered Bag
07.26.07 (11:36 am)   [edit]
As much as I hate the feathered outfit in the last post, I LOVE this feathered bag. It looks so lightweight, and has a very upscale look. It's not the right kind of purse for every woman, and even then, it's not the right kind of purse for every occasion. But when it works, it really works.

Fendi- Bird Outfit
07.26.07 (11:34 am)   [edit]

Ummm, yeah. When I think of Fendi, high fashion, and beautiful garments, the idea of looking like a bird always springs to the top of my mind. I'll often wear an outfit and think, "Geez, this would be perfect if only it had feathers along the sleeves." After all, Big Bird is hot this year!

Even if you ignore that, the sleeves are still silly. The skirt is interesting with the curved slit on the side. But the rest is kinda blah.

Skincare
07.24.07 (6:21 pm)   [edit]
*This is a sponsored post.

We all know how important skincare is. After all, your skin is the largest organ on your body. I think there are a lot of different skincare products out there, such as SkinCeuticals, Eminence Organic Skin Care, and Guinot, because everybody has different things that they need out of their skincare products. For example, someone may use MD Formulations because they need something that has more care for sensitive skin, and Bare Escentuals because they are looking for a healthy-looking natural product.

This site also has Giorgio Armani Perfumes, Calvin Klein Perfume, Gucci Perfume, and Hugo Boss Perfume.

Frankie Morello- Tiered Dress
07.24.07 (6:07 pm)   [edit]

I hate to use this phrase, but it's so true. Tiers were SOOOO last season. And even then, they knew enough to keep from making a whole short dress out of it. The reason a short dress with tiers is bad is because it is such a full, heavy look. It makes the dress look weighed down, which is exactly the opposite of what should happen with a short dress. And then the idea of layering a sweater over the top just weighs it down even more.

Frankie Morello- Knit Pantsuit
07.24.07 (6:06 pm)   [edit]

So ugly. It's not bad enough that this is a knit pantsuit in an absolutely awful color. It has to go and make it a bubble style too. Puff out the sleeves, make the pants baggy- yuck!

Frankie Morello- Geometric Coat
07.24.07 (6:05 pm)   [edit]

Yet again, this has a very funky 60's look to it, but the style still manages to be modern. The cut is interesting, with it being slightly longer in the back than the front. I hate the hat and the baggy shorts, but I like the coat. I wouldn't necessarily wear it, but I like it.

Frankie Morello- Coat Closures
07.24.07 (6:02 pm)   [edit]

These coat closures are funky. It has a 60's sort of look to it, but manges to be thoroughly modern. I don't really care for the size of the closures, but that's strictly a personal opinion, and I won't hold it against the coat.

Support a good cause.

My Single Mom Life or Kat is hosting a blogathon on her site. She is raising money for The Montel Williams MS Foundation and MS, which is an issue close to her heart. You see, Kat's sister-in-law has MS, as do too many other people. By raising money, maybe we can find a cure for it.

Montel Williams started his foundation because he was diagnosed with MS himself. He knows firsthand what those with MS are living with, and is determined to find a cure for it. Because of his own personal diagnosis, I am more certain that his foundation is using the money in a good way, so that they can help find a cure.

Mr. Williams sought out all the experts he could find, and fortunately, he had the money and fame to do so. But most people are not so lucky. They cannot afford to see Harvard doctors or travel to Sweden as Mr. Williams did. And even worse, research has shown that early diagnosis and treatment can prevent the progression. By raising money, it can help those who aren't as fortunate find the care they need. If you can find a way to do so, sponsor Kat in her efforts. This is certainly a worthy cause. She's trying to raise $2000, and though that's a lofty goal, I know she can do it with our help.

Belstaff- Bad Skirt and Glasses
07.19.07 (5:06 pm)   [edit]

The shirt isn't exactly my style, but I know of plenty of stores that could sell this top successfully. So I'll refrain from giving it too much crap.

The skirt and glasses are a different matter. The sunglasses are the most bugeyed I've ever seen, and the skirt resembles a trash bag. It's not a great look. Also, I just noticed that the tights are a shiny, weird fabric. Hate them too.

Belstaff- Bad Pattern
07.19.07 (5:05 pm)   [edit]

Oh god. I'm seriously unnerved by this dress. Plaid, knit belts, red tights, shoulder pads, and knit panels set into the dress. Seriously, there is not ONE SINGLE THING that works about this. It's heavy and muscular and unflattering, and I have no idea why they thought it was a good idea.

Belstaff- Evil Military
07.19.07 (5:03 pm)   [edit]

This outfit is quite a success, but that doesn't make it any less scary. It's got some seriously evil implications, and the model wearing thick eyeliner and scowling doesn't help.

They were actually brilliant in pairing the boots and gloves with the outfit. It gives it an especially nasty edge. No, it isn't pretty, cute, or even all that wearable. It's not meant to be. It's meant to have strong overtones of military dictatorship. And in that, it succeeds completely without being a costume.

Belstaff- Harsh Jacket
07.19.07 (5:02 pm)   [edit]

This jacket is certainly bulbous, but it has harsh overtones too. There just isn't anything overly inviting about it. Rather, it's standoffish. It says, "Don't approach me. Don't bother."

I hate this look.

Online Stores
07.17.07 (3:32 pm)   [edit]
*This is a sponsored post.

Many years ago, I had my own herb store. I sold various medicinal herbs such as chamomile and echinacea (since I'm asked soooo frequently, no, I didn't have that herb). My herbs were carried in several different stores across two states, and I was literally the biggest retail supplier throughout the region. But while my offline sales were fantastic, my online sales were pathetic. The site was amazing, if you ask me. I had tons of info, but it was all in an easy to read format. The biggest problem was, this was in the early days of the internet, and nobody was quite comfortable providing their credit card number online. It seemed like every day, you were hearing stories about how dangerous it was to provide your credit card number online. The problem was, none of it was backed up by any proof. So my online sales suffered while people were catching onto the new medium of the internet.

Eventually the store closed. It just wasn't worth it anymore. But I wonder how things would have turned out differently if I started it now. People are still buying herbs, and ALL of the stores where I had them are now gone. Why? Because their clients found better deals online and went there. Hmph.

I do 90% of my Christmas and birthday shopping online. And probably a good 30% of ALL my shopping is done online. I think there's true potential there, but a lot of people aren't making the best of it. I see so many poorly designed stores or difficult to use shopping carts, and I tend to avoid those stores altogether. After all, if they want my business, they need to seem like they won't steal my money. StoresOnlineSite.com helps businesses with their stores, and merchant websites in general. It automates the whole thing for a professional look that will impress and entice your customers.

Ben de Lisi- Gold Pants
07.17.07 (3:19 pm)   [edit]

I should totally hate these pants. But I don't. I love them. They are so outrageously bold, so blinged out, that you can't help but be fascinated by them. When paired with the wrap sweater, the gold belt, and that deep tan, it's just so pretty. Nice job.

Ben de Lisi- Dark Grey Gown
07.17.07 (3:18 pm)   [edit]

This is a beautiful color, but overall, I don't like it. There should be a bit more of a sheen to it. As it is, it looks like they had a good idea, but didn't take the time to fully develop it. It's almost a success, which makes it hurt worse than if it completely failed altogether.

Ben de Lisi- Bright Purple
07.17.07 (3:17 pm)   [edit]

OH. MY. GOD. Somebody collected the leftover Christmas tinsel, and wove it into a dress. A bubble dress at that. I can't imagine their reasons for doing so. All I know is that I am touch-typing right now, because I think I've been permanently blinded in my right eye from this dress. My left eye is only temporarily stunned, because I was able to wince quickly enough to avoid the full damage of the dress.

Berardi- Striped Top
07.17.07 (3:16 pm)   [edit]

I love everything about this. Don't get me wrong, I'd never buy it for myself, but for the right person, it's gorgeous.

The little black bum cover over black tights is funky and playful. I like the zipper up front, because it gives the bum cover a dangerous edge. But it's the sheer (but not too sheer) top that really makes the outfit. This has the perfect neckline for the fabric, and the stripes are the perfect width. Any thicker, and they would have been too heavy for such a youthful look. Any thinner, and they would have been lost.

Rental Property
07.17.07 (3:13 pm)   [edit]
*This is a sponsored post.

Most of my regular readers already know about my rental property. Well, we're thinking of adding another. See, after the move, we still owned our house. It needs a little bit of work before we can sell it, but the more we think about it, the more we are thinking about renting it out. Rental income is a nice passive income source, and I'm all about not having to work as hard for my money. Don't get me wrong. It can be a fair amount of work. There's enforcing the lease, making repairs, showing the property, etc. You have to be part landlord, part home improvement contractor, and part real estate agent. But it's something I LOVE doing.

Rentals.com makes it a little easier for most landlords. You can list your property and get interest in it, without all the traditional work that had to be done in the past. Overall, the internet has made it so much easier to list your rental property and generate interest. Because Rentals.com is partnered with an entire network, your property gets shown quite often. We went 6+ months on one side without renting it, and over a year on the other side. Sure, we have great tenants now, one of which has a 20 year lease with us, but it was stressful that we couldn't get any showings scheduled.

Oh, and it's pretty good for finding a rental place too. ;) :D

Berardi- Grey Coat
07.17.07 (3:07 pm)   [edit]

This grey coat has a lot of potential, but the scarf isn't doing it any favors. At first glance, I thought it was rather frayed, and as I went back to find a frayed detail to discuss, I realized that there weren't any on the coat itself. I would have preferred a cleaner look, which means this needs to lose the scarf. By itself, it's a fantastic grey coat. With the scarf, it's a little sloppy.

Betsey Johnson- Wide Peach Outfit
07.17.07 (3:05 pm)   [edit]

Yikes!! It's not that the outfit is so bad, because it's not. It's kind of cute, and rather classic. But those pockets ruin the whole thing. No, let me clarify. That model with her hands in the pockets ruins the whole thing. That's right, baby. Stretch it out WIDE. Make everyone think that you have ginormous hips, for whatever reason.

Betsey Johnson- Silver Stripes
07.17.07 (3:04 pm)   [edit]

This season is all about gold and diagonals. So Betsey Johnson went with silver and vertical stripes. Yeah, nice choice there.

I'm not a fan of this dress, all trends aside. The sleeve length is too long to justify such a short skirt. Also, I remember these dresses. Buttons on the top, but the skirt has nothing to help you out. It's impossible for those with a little junk in the trunk to fit into these. I remember that I could fit just fine in these, and they would have looked fantastic. If I ever got them on, that is. See, with my large chest, I couldn't go over the top with the skirt. And with my hips, I couldn't go over the bottom. So, I was always left getting it halfway on, no matter which direction I came at it from. Completely useless.

Yikes!
07.14.07 (4:15 pm)   [edit]
This is only a very slight grumble, but I'm going to say it anyway. PLEASE stay up Tblog. Yowza! These last few days have been a mess.

Like I said, only a small complaint. I know the powers that be are doing everything they can to get it up and running and keep it in good shape. Thanks for your hard work, guys! More than a complaint, I'm saying that I hope you have the problem figured out and put Tblog on some really good antibiotics so it doesn't happen again. ;) :D

Seriously cool t-shirts
07.10.07 (8:34 pm)   [edit]
*This is a sponsored post.

I found some really cool T-shirts tonight. This place has some that are inspired by geishas, the military, and 50's pinup girls, but they ALL have a decidedly modern feel to them. I'd love to get these, throw on a really long, funky knit scarf and my favorite pair of jeans, pair them with my funkiest pair of heels, and go out for a night. I'd feel like a total rockstar. :D

The designers don't pay attention to the fashion world, but follow the inspiration of the things around them. They really produce t-shirts that have a very different look than almost any other out there.

Betsey Johnson- Black Dress
07.10.07 (8:28 pm)   [edit]

I hesitantly admit that I like this. Yeah, the puff balls are gross and make it look like something from my grandma's closet, but the rest of the suit is fun and playful. It's almost too cute, and I probably should hate it, but I don't.

That being said, the white gloves have got to go.

Betsey Johnson- Black and White Stripe Dress
07.10.07 (8:27 pm)   [edit]

At first glance, I like this, but on second thought, it's a little too simple. Diagonal stripes always get a lot of attention, and black and white does too. But it's kind of easy, ya know?

Also, the hat is a boring look with it. White hat for the summer, black hat for the winter- right?? Yawn.

Betsey Johnson- Black and Gold Dress
07.10.07 (8:26 pm)   [edit]

This dress is a disaster. The gold has a little too much yellow. Sure, gold is in, but not this shade of gold. The right shade should be a little deeper. And the top looks like it was designed for the military. The cut is too simple.

Bad look!

LA2Day
07.06.07 (11:53 am)   [edit]
*This is a sponsored post. If you live in LA, there's a site that can help you plan some of the coolest places to go. It bills itself as the "official guidebook to unexpected LA". Say you're looking for LA dinning. This site can help you find the best place in all of LA to eat. They've got stuff about all different kinds of LA Nightlife. 57 I don't personally live in LA, but I've got friends there. If I ever visited, we would be able to find some fun, cool stuff to do there. And sure, they could tell me some places, but this site keeps all the info up-to-date.
