I want a vacation!
12.20.07 (11:37 am) [edit]
My husband has no idea yet, but we ARE going to Paris next year. lol I have spent the last several years being told that our vacations are going to be spent at my mother-in-law's house. And although I usually have fun when I'm there, I want a real vacation. More than that, I'd like a little say in where we go, and you know something? My mother in law is going to have a hard time competing with Paris. lol
While I've been to London a couple of times, I've never set foot into France, and with going to a new place, I always like to know a little about what I'm doing there. I always run out and buy any Hotel Guides and city guides I can find. I want anything that will tell me a little about the place I'm visiting. And I love reading those city guides. Some websites would tell me that I have to visit the Eiffel Tower, the Louvre, and take a trip to Versailles. But the printed city guides go into so much more detail. The danger with them is that they will be woefully out of date. So I try and do a nice combination of the two- reading all the websites I can find, and then picking up a book dedicated to the city. When I go to Paris, I must see Notre Dame, because my son is really into architecture. I have to see the catacombs, because I think it's a really interesting part of France. I'm going to skip the Eiffel Tower, except for looking at it from the ground, because I'm terrified of heights, and getting me on a tall, pointy thing would not have good results. :D And I have to see the shopping in Paris, and possibly take a run right about the same time John Galliano would be on his morning run. lol And naturally, I'm bringing home as much wine as I possibly can.
And if my husband objects, he's welcome to go visit his mom. ;)

Project Runway Season 4 Predictions.
12.20.07 (11:36 am) [edit]
I'm covering each episode of Project Runway Season 4 in more detail on my other fashion blog. So for more in depth coverage, check there.
You'll notice there wasn't an episode of Project Runway last night. There isn't going to be one next week either. They are taking some time off for Christmas, and I suspect they are also trying to adjust the timing for Fashion Week. Otherwise, why take this week off??
We're well into the season now, so I figured it was a good time to figure out where we're at. Jack is gone, and rest assured, he's fine. He's also dating a guy from Top Chef three. Chris is back in his place, but honestly, how much longer can he last? Christian is so full of himself, and I truly wish he'd shut up and go away. His stuff is not that cute, and the only exception was the jacket he made for the woman who had been overweight.
Also, I am ready to call it. I suspected it before the season started, but I was ready to call it by the second episode. Rami is going to win. He's going the same way as Jay McCarroll did. He's kind of flying under the radar with a solid outfit that doesn't win. So all the weaker contestants get taken out. Right about the top 5, everyone will be a good designer, but some of them are going to be more hit and miss than he is. His innovation and beauty are going to carry him to a win.

Miu Miu- Tabbed Dress
12.17.07 (1:41 pm) [edit]

At first glance, this looks like a really short dress that kind of resembles a maid's uniform. But when you look closely, you'll notice it has tabs all over it. Little, small tabs of fabric. What they've done is make a weird dress even weirder. I don't care for it at all.

Cell Phone Tower Landlord
12.08.07 (12:50 pm) [edit]
I found a site today that allows people to secure a cell phone tower lease. This is something I have heard about before, and in fact considered. I have a commercial property that I could use, or several other options if that would not work. The problem is, I need a lot more answers before I begin down that road. Are cell phone towers able to be constructed on top of buildings? I would assume so, because in many large cities, there wouldn't be any cell phones if they couldn't put the towers on buildings. But if they can be constructed there, what kind of permit do I need from the city to allow it? And who pays for the costs? What does this mean for my other tenants? There are many more questions than this, but you get the idea.
The reason it's so attractive for me is because if I can do it, it's like getting twice as much use out of the same amount of space. I can effectively rent to more "people" than my building's floorplan would seem to allow. See why it's something I have considered? After checking the website, I found that they do have sites in my area. And even if my commercial building won't work, some other spot might. It's definitely got me questioning the various options that are available.

Jovovich Hawk- Sunburst Pleat
12.08.07 (12:45 pm) [edit]

First off, the Jovovich Hawk line is designed partially by Milla Jovovich, of "Resident Evil" and "The Fifth Element" fame. They put together a nice collection, but it barely qualifies as a collection. This time, there were only 11 pieces, and one of them was a handbag. The typical collection has closer to 35-55 pieces, so you can see just how lacking this is. Also, as a collection, the pieces don't really fit together. They are all beautiful, but the "collection" needs some work.
Now, the dress. I am most interested in the yellow dress in this photo. It's rather simple, but done very well. The sunburst pleating is phenomenal, and it's a good look. Also, I like that they didn't try to complicate it with a jewel encrusted neckline, or a pattern. They simply made a pretty yellow dress. The thing that makes it look so fresh is that it's uncomplicated by any other details.

Jovovich Hawk- Nice Dress
12.08.07 (12:40 pm) [edit]
This is a GORGEOUS dress. Look at the back. I love the draping and the playing with different colors. Alternating the colors adds a lot of interest and innovation. I'm not so fond of the thing on the sleeve, and I think this dress would be a lot prettier without it. But overall, nice job!

Weight loss and muscle building
12.05.07 (9:47 pm) [edit]
*This is a sponsored post.
I've made no secret of the fact that I'm trying to lose weight, or the fact that I'm struggling with it. I recently added strength training into my workout training routines, and I've noticed a difference already. It makes sense too. While cardio can help you get rid of fat, weights and strength training help you burn more fat all the time, even when you aren't working out. So even though I'm doing less cardio, I'm losing more weight and getting toner.
I found a site called MuscleandStength.com that has lots of workout routines. These free workout routines can help you whether you are just starting out like I am, or an advanced user. Their workout routines database has a really well-rounded approach, and the members there can guide you if you have any questions. I'm certain this is a site I'll be visiting more often.

Jovovich Hawk- Nice Bag
12.05.07 (9:45 pm) [edit]

I like the simplicity of this bag. It's really pretty, and it looks like a great bag you could use for overnight trips. It's got a retro sort of look, and it *almost* treads into a granny bag. This actually works in its favor. It's not overly fussy and overworked, but just simple and casual.

Jovovich Hawk- Cutouts
12.05.07 (9:39 pm) [edit]

This dress is really interesting. The cutouts at the neck, waist, and knees give it a little sexiness, but there's no vulgarity to it. I think this is a very cute summer dress, and I'm kind of glad to see the black in summer. A lot of people do winter white, but it's rare to find a collection that uses summer black.

Sarongs
12.01.07 (6:26 pm) [edit]
*This is a sponsored post.
When I was in high school, I created my first fashion piece. It was a sarong with some really wacky blue fabric we had. I figured there was nothing else you could do with it, so I was just going to have fun with it. And I definitely did. I can even remember exact conversations! I had so much fun that day. Obviously! How many specific days can you recall from high school?? I think it's just because I was dressed like I was on vacation, so I felt like I was on vacation. lol
MadGringo.com is a store with some cool tropical shirts and beachwear. And yes, they have sarongs. Their whole theory is that you should "go slow" through life, because it's just not worth racing through at a fast pace. My favorite piece from there is the "Bubble Tea Adventure Full Pareo". It's a green dress that ties behind your neck, halter style. I love it because it would look amazing with my red hair. Also, every year we go on vacation to Texas in May, and it's always so hot there. Throw this on, some cool espadrilles, and I won't melt in the sun.
They've also got a vacation widget. You can see mine below, or create your own. That will let you readers know that you're going on vacation, so it's actually a really useful little tool for bloggers. And while you are there creating your own widget, make sure to click on the "Go" tab for a special deal!! You will get $10 off a purchase at MadGringo.

Stella McCartney- Purse and Dress
12.01.07 (6:07 pm) [edit]

I'm not really a fan of the print on this fabric, but even that is tolerable compared to matching your dress and purse. I can't think of a good reason to match your purse to your clothing (when patterns are involved). It works for a 6 year old going to Easter Sunday services. Apart from that, it's just too old-fashioned and tacky.

Stella McCartney- Pieced Top
12.01.07 (6:04 pm) [edit]

The top of this dress is really unusual. There's sort of oval shaped flat pieces that have been sewn, one on top of another, all across the top. Now, I don't really care for it in this state, but the idea is neat. What I'd rather see is a floral type use of this idea. Making it green would look more "natural", and I think ultimately work a lot better.
