Oysters
02.26.08 (5:22 pm)   [edit]
What did the tattletale oyster say to the teacher? "He's being SHELLFISH!!!" Okay, bad joke. I know, and I apologize. But you should pay heed to my PEARLS of wisdom and follow these tips on how to safely enjoy Gulf oysters. I don't want to CLAM UP, so I'll share all my tips for you SHRIMP out there. (Man, this blog has GONE TO POT.) :D

Everyone knows that you shouldn't eat raw or undercooked oysters. The reason why is because of Vibrio vulnificus. This is something that can cause anything from vomiting and diarrhea in people who are not "at-risk" to serious illness or death for those who are. Consumers who have certain conditions such as liver disease, cancer, and stomach disorders are considered at-risk. Check the link above for full details. Cooking is such a simple way to reduce the risk for anyone, and with such great recipes as using them on pizza or grilling them, why wouldn't you?!

Oscars- Helen Mirren
02.26.08 (5:17 pm)   [edit]

Man. Helen Mirren is so freakin' hot. lol You always hear people say, "I want to be that hot when I'm her age." Well forget that!! I want to be that hot now!!! :D

The dress is by Georges Chakra, and features Swarovski crystal sleeves. She has reat taste, and picked an outfit that totally rocks.

Oscars- Amy Adams
02.26.08 (5:14 pm)   [edit]

Amy Adams had a cute dress. Don't get me wrong. But I have a problem with it. She went for the ultra-safe red-head in a green mermaid dress. The Proenza Schouler dress would have been more of a risk, and therefore more of a payoff if a blonde wore it.

Adam Lippes- Bird
02.25.08 (11:47 am)   [edit]
This would be a fairly cute dress, if it wasn't for the fact that there's a rather large bird at the bottom. I mean, what was possibly going through the designer's head?? "I need to do a black dress with white tights, and a large white bird sewn into the bottom." Okayyyyyy... Apart from the birdie, the waist is not good. This is the second dress in the collection that would land a celebrity in the tabloids for a suspected baby bump. And the pockets- I wish pockets on the runway would go away. There's just not a lot of point to them. This dress should have a clean outline, and it could, except it's being thrown off by the pockets!

Getting out of debt
02.18.08 (11:29 pm)   [edit]
We've been doing a lot of budget planning lately. Last year, we resolved to pay off our credit card debt, and managed it early last month. Our next goal is to pay off an air conditioner for our commercial building, and there's no reason why we can't do that this year. But we also want to pay off our mortgage this year, which will be much more difficult. Still, if we can manage that, we'll be in an amazing position to put aside some in investments. It's not easy. In fact, last month, we cut our grocery bill down to about $45 a week for a family of four, which is unheard of for around here. But getting rid of just the credit cards made it easy for us to tackle the AC. Then, the AC and credit card money is being used for the mortgage, and so on. We just keep living at the same level (or less), and don't use it as an excuse to run out and buy a new tv. So it was definitely worth it.

I can't believe how long we went without any sort of debt management plan in place for our personal finances. I think too many people are in the same situation, but a lot of them are in such a desperate situation that they can't come up with the extra money to pay off small bills. It's definitely a lesson I wish I learned early, so it wouldn't have even been an issue to start with.

Rag and Bone- Bad Zipper
02.18.08 (11:17 pm)   [edit]

It's never a good idea to put a really long zipper right down the front of an outfit. This outfit shows why. You will inevitably have it bunching up in weird places. Buttons are also risky. They give it more flow, but you really risk it gapping open at various places.

Apart from that, it's so forgettable. I won't remember this outfit as soon as I shut down this window.

Rag and Bone- Beautiful Outfit
02.18.08 (11:16 pm)   [edit]

This is such a cool outfit. I love all the different layers, and the militaristic look. Somehow, despite the military-like aspects, it is not harsh. Instead, it's a feminine outfit with a little bit of an edge. It could be softened up much more by getting rid of the leggings, gloves, and hat. That would make the skirt lay better too, which would give it a sleeker look.

Need Your Help With a Contest
02.12.08 (11:26 am)   [edit]
I entered a contest at Wherestheflamegrill.com. The idea of the contest is to show why flame grilling is the best way to cook chicken. After seeing my video, well, I don't think there will be any doubt. lol If you have a minute, I'd appreciate it if you could visit the site and rate it 5 "flames".

Thanks in advance!

Valentine's Day Flowers
02.08.08 (11:17 am)   [edit]
*This is a sponsored post.

If you want to know about flowers, LadyG's blog is the place to visit, but I wanted to weigh in with my own thoughts on Valentine's Day and flowers. As is usually the case, I HATE the traditional, and I would like something a bit unusual for Valentine's Day. I think I would respond better to a nice romantic picnic where my husband picked me a bouquet of dandelions than getting valentines roses. Fortunately, he knows this about me.

I suspect I'm not the only woman who feels that way either. Seriously guys, avoid the roses unless you can get the florist to do something unusual with them. And if you've waited this long, good luck getting roses. lol

I was browsing the website for 1-800-Flowers.com, and luckily, I saw a few that were interesting enough that I would be happy to get them. My personal favorite is this strange little arrangement in a vase that is such a deep purple color that it looks black. The vase has clear spots covering it, and it holds some absolutely perfect roses. But it's not the roses that make it so interesting to me. I like that they paired them with Ti leaves, which are these unusual red and black leaves. Furthermore, the leaves aren't just around the sides, but also folded here and there throughout the arrangement. It also comes with a "diamond" napkin ring, though I can't figure out what I would do with only one napkin ring. lol It's a really unique floral arrangement, and it definitely appeals to me because it's so non-traditional. Others include a really bright arrangement of roses, with candy filling the bottom of the vase, a rose trellis arrangement, one that comes with 60 roses, chocolates, and a ruby and diamond necklace, and one that comes with several gifts, including the roses in a Chinese take-out box. lol

Rag and Bone- Falling Stockings
02.08.08 (11:00 am)   [edit]

Unlike some of the outfits in this collection, this one looks like the top of the stockings are peeking out unintentionally. The problem is, they aren't. There are some outfits in this collection where the effect was done on purpose, and unlike those, this one doesn't allow enough space between the bottom of the skirt and the top of the stockings to make it look like it was intentional. Instead, it just looks like the hosiery is accidentally slipping down. :S Not good.

Rag and Bone- Good Suit
02.08.08 (10:57 am)   [edit]

This is an amazing suit. The chain could look goofy, but through sheer luck, it really works well. The cut of the suit is great, although the shirt isn't my favorite. I wish the neck of the shirt was different and that the sleeves were more streamlined and fitted.

Rag and Bone- Cool Outfit
02.05.08 (4:53 pm)   [edit]

Can you believe it's New York Fashion Week already?! I think it snuck up on me. lol

This outfit isn't good because it has any innovative features. It's just a really nice outfit. The fitted, multi-color top is really sleek, and that seems to be the look this season. With the skirt, the fabric isn't my favorite, but the skirt is nicely sewn.
