Okay, bad joke. I know, and I apologize. But you should pay heed to my PEARLS of wisdom and follow these tips on how to safely enjoy Gulf oysters. I don't want to CLAM UP, so I'll share all my tips for you SHRIMP out there. (Man, this blog has GONE TO POT.) :D
Everyone knows that you shouldn't eat raw or undercooked oysters. The reason why is because of Vibrio vulnificus. This is something that can cause anything from vomiting and diarrhea in people who are not "at-risk" to serious illness or death for those who are. Consumers who have certain conditions such as liver disease, cancer, and stomach disorders are considered at-risk. Check the link above for full details. Cooking is such a simple way to reduce the risk for anyone, and with such great recipes as using them on pizza or grilling them, why wouldn't you?!

I checked out the recipe for Chicago-Style Oyster Pizza. Sounds yummy, and as soon as I can secure some Chicago area oysters, I'll give it a try.
